Filtering Your QualLaborate Report

Filtering QualLaborate results is a big part of your research. Often, when you're giving your participants multiple tasks (choose your favorite, point out what you don't like, etc.) within one activity, you'll be getting results that will produce useless heatmaps unless you filter these actions to create a clean, focused heatmap.

Viewing the Report

You'll first want to enter the report page of your QualLaborate activity. To get there, click on the QualLaborate tab on your left-hand navigation pane, then click on the "View Report" button on the right of the activity you'd like to investigate.

Filter by Participant

To choose which participants you'd like to have represented in your results, click on the "Filter Participants" button at the top of the page.

The Filter Participants window will open. Thislists all participants whom have access to this activity (if your QualLaborate project is linked to more than one board, the participants of all those boards will be listed here). Select or deselect the participants that you would like represented in this report.

Additionally, you can also toggle first impressions. For example, if you remove the check mark from "thumbs up" it will automatically uncheck all participants who selected that as their first impression.

Filter by Group Tag

A "Filter by Group Tag" toggle is at the bottom of the participant list. This reveals a list of the group tags that have been used in each of the linked boards. You can then toggle the group tags on or off, which will in turn toggle your participants on or off.

If you have the same group tags used in each of your linked boards, those tags will appear as different tags; therefore, you may want to edit the names of your tags to include the board number or name so you can more easily identify them. For example, "Males Board 1" and "Males Board 2." Additionally, if you need to filter your results by board, you will want to create one group tag for each board and apply it to each member of that board. This way, you can filter your results by "Board 1," "Board 2," and so on.

Once you've updated your participant filters, a beige "Update View" button will appear toward the bottom of your screen. Click it to update the heat map and the pie chart on the bottom left of the screen.

Filtering by Tools

Additionally, you can specify which tools you'd like to be represented in your heat map. Typically, you'll only want one tool per heat map image. For example, begin by unchecking all tools except for the one labeled "Makes me happy." Then click the "Update View" button again. This will render a heat map of only the markups on the image that have made participants happy. It's important to have this data pulled as a separate image from the markups for "Make me sad."

One Color Heatmap

When you are showing a single tool, selecting "One color heatmap" should make the image easier to read. With a single color, you'll be able to more clearly see the intensity of areas marked up on the image, because the intensity of the single color is changing throughout it. Make sure to click "Update View" when using this option, and also be aware that it will only allow you to select a single tool when enabled.

Filtering by Area

By clicking the "Select Range" button on the bottom right, your mouse cursor will turn into crosshairs. Use these to drag/draw a box around the region on which you'd like to focus. Then click the "Update View" button on the bottom left to reveal a report that hides all marks and comments that do not appear within the selected region.

Moving Your Tool Selection to the Other Canvases

If you have completed your participant and tool filters on the current canvas and would like it to be reflected on all canvases in your exportable report, click (1) the "Export" button, (2) "Other Canvases,"  (3)"Use currently Selected Tools." You will also see a list of canvases on this activity which you can toggle on or off to further filter your report.

When done, select if you want an Overview, First Impressions, and/or Markups and Highlights, and select the format in which you'd like to receive your report.
